Glenn Close, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Daniel Sauli have agreed to star in HBO's tv movie STRIP SEARCH. The movie will follow three seperate, yet intertwining storylines set shortly after the events of September 11, 2001. Close will play a U.S. Federal agent, Gyllenhaal will play an American student in China, and Sauli will play an artist trying to provoke a public reaction.

I think I just had an aneurism. Did I just read that right? It's about terrorism and the government, and they're calling the movie "STRIP SEARCH?!?"

I'm sorry, but that title just does NOT fit for that type of movie. Strip Search sounds more like a title for a porn or "beered-up-girl-in-a-bar" type of flick. Getcher heads out of your asses, HBO!

'Birdchasm' has details on the Supes project which at last seems to be moving again - "Superman is looking a bit better. Remember the show "Roswell" on UPN? and "Star Trek"? Jonathan Frakes was the creator of the first and a star of the second. He recently did the "Thunderbirds" film. Anyway, looks like he might be doing it. He too has ideas for casting - Jason Behr and Colin Hanks - tested a week Friday - Behr for the lead, Hanks as Jimmy Olsen. Whilst Hanks is apparently 'looking good', Behr's not a chance. Been a heap of actors in for Superman - Ashton too tested! as did Justin Timberlake, Brendan Fraser, Henry Cavill, Matthew Bomer - but only a handful for Olsen. At this stage - if things are locked down as they are expected to be this month - it'll get rolling before December".

Actually, Johnathan Frakes was a director for Roswell, not the creator. Also, he directed Clockstoppers, host Beyond Belief, and other stuff.[/quote]

Viacom, which owns the rights to Star Trek, issued a public statement in response to a suit by game publisher Activision, calling the lawsuit a ploy to renegotiate a 10-year licensing agreement to produce Trek-themed games. Activision alleged that Viacom had allowed the Trek franchise to "stagnate and decay"; in response, Viacom said in a statement that "Activision's allegations are without merit; indeed, Activision appears to be trying to use the courts in an effort to renegotiate a deal it made in 1998 to secure the rights to the valued Star Trek franchise for interactive games."

Sources at Viacom's Paramount Pictures also denied to SCI FI Wire a claim that Viacom told Activision it had no plans for further Trek feature films. "We have every intention of continuing the movie franchise," the sources said.

Activision filed a breach-of-contract suit in the Superior Court of the State of California on June 30 and is seeking unspecified damages. "Activision cannot successfully develop and sell Star Trek video games without the product exploitation and support promised by Viacom," the suit alleged. "A continuing pipeline of movie and television production and related marketing is absolutely crucial to the success of video games based on a property such as Star Trek."

But in its own statement, Viacom said that it was "disappointed by Activision's filing of a lawsuit yesterday in light of the fruitful collaboration the parties have enjoyed for the last nearly five years. During their collaboration, Activision has produced 14 Star Trek-themed products, including a tie-in to the release of the 10th Star Trek film, Nemesis, just last year."

Viacom added that "Star Trek continues to enjoy widespread popularity and success throughout the world. Activision's assertions and claims in its filing are manifestly unfounded, as one can learn by simply turning on a television set or walking into a book, game or video store."

Back in the 80's the boy band phenomena was slightly different than the current batch, there was no Backstreet or N'Sync rivalry, no hordes of clones pounding sappy pop over the airwaves. Throughout that decade one group dominated and had no equal - the one and only 'New Kids On The Block' with hits like "Hangin' Tough", "The Right Stuff" & "Step by Step". Now whilst talking with CosmoGirl, ex-member Joey McIntyre revealed "They're actually trying to get a film off the ground as we speak. Not a telemovie or anything, a big-time feature film, based on our sudden bash of fame and eventual disappearance from the scene. I'd love to play myself. But I doubt that's going to happen - when their's plenty more better looking, younger [laughs] actors out there. But I hear Donnie [Wahlberg] is insistent he's the only person good enough to play him. The only one of us that is honest enough to admit his shortcomings is Jordan though, and I think they're talking to Freddie Prinze Jr about that role". Makes you wonder if Donnie's bro Mark will cameo.

CBS has given BECKER another chance to prove itself on the fall schedule, as they have replaced freshman series THE STONES with the veteran show. The two shows essentially swapped places, as now THE STONES will roll as a midseason replacement and BECKER will take its place at the Wednesday 9:30 PM EST slot after KING OF QUEENS. The Eye is hoping the move will establish Wednesday night as a comedy night with the two veteran shows.

According to singer/actress Jewel, her Magic Lantern Entertainment is in talks with Goldie Hawn to star in WAVE. "It's a pretty serious film, but it's written well," said Jewel. "It's pretty lighthearted [and] at the same time, it tackles some very serious subjects. It's about a young male character's relationship with his mom. [She] went to jail to protect him from his father, and when she gets out, their relationship unfolds. He realizes that things weren't quite as they seemed, and it's about them working their relationship out." Jewel will co-star in the film as the son's girlfriend.

MTV has greenlit two series from former JACKASS stars. THE NATURE SHOW will see Chris Pontius and Steve-O traveling to exotic locales to frolic with wild animals. Bam Margera will head an untitled series similar to JACKASS. He will continue to play pranks on his parents and friends. "We didn't want to do JACKASS again," said Brian Graden, president of entertainment at MTV and VH1. "We thought there was enough distinction to their ideas that we would avoid repeating ourselves."

IGN FilmForce reveals that Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl has a nice pay-off for those who stay after the final credit disappears. It's more than a clip. It's a one-minute coda about one of the characters and it features additional special effects from ILM.

So, don't leave your seat when the credits start rolling. Stick around for a bit of extra fun!

Filmmaker Spike Lee and Viacom settled a dispute Monday that allows the media giant to rebrand its TNN network as Spike TV, ending a lawsuit that contended the new moniker was a deliberate attempt to hijack Lee's image.

Lee, director of Malcolm X and Do the Right Thing, had obtained a temporary injunction in June that prevented the name change, but on Monday state Supreme Court Justice Walter Tolub lifted the order.

The ruling means Viacom, which also owns CBS and MTV, can proceed immediately with plans to call the network Spike TV, the "first television network for men." Details on the settlement were not disclosed.

Lee, whose real name is Shelton Jackson Lee, said he objected to being "associated with low-brow programming."

The judge initially ordered Lee to post a $500,000 bond on June 13 after he issued a temporary injunction against Viacom's plan to rename TNN. But after a hearing two weeks ago, the judge raised the bond to $2.5 million and gave Lee until Monday to post it.

The additional $2 million was never posted, and the judge vacated the injunction after both sides reached the agreement, said one of Lee's lawyers, Terry Gross.

"We have settled the case with Viacom," Gross said. "It's obviously good when parties settle."

During the hearing Monday, TNN vice president Kevin Kay said the network had lost millions of dollars since the injunction and stood to lose millions more if the bar continued.

Viacom officials didn't immediately return telephone calls seeking comment on the judge's order.

While the case was pending, Lee was in Los Angeles filming Sucker-Free City for Showtime, a cable network owned by Viacom.

John Whitesell is in talks to direct Warner Brothers/Village Roadshow Pictures' live-action/computer-animated feature sequel Cats & Dogs 2: Tinkles' Revenge, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Andrew Lazar's Mad Chance Productions is producing.

The sequel to 2001's Cats & Dogs is expected to be in theaters by summer 2005. The original film's writers, John Requa and Glenn Ficarra, penned the sequel. Tab Murphy is revising the script, which will continue the war between canines and felines.

In the words of John Stewart: "Why don't they just go all the way and clal it Cock TV?"

Either way, I didn't have an opinion about Spike Lee before this, and now I think he's either a giant tool or he's an idiot.
