Figured I'd ask what everyone is doing for a summer job. Me? I do some minor landscaping. Mostly, I work at this mansion, removing every leaf that's even slightly brown. Then I have to rake my foot prints out of the mulch. If you know anything about mulch, it's that you can't see foot prints in it unless you are 3 feet away and LOOKING for them. Seriously, these people want us to be like frikken gnomes that just pop out, care for everything, and are never seen.

But, they pay us, so as long as I get paid, I cna't complain ^_^

So what's everyone doing for the summer?

I'm working as a RA for the summer conferences that are here at Missouri. It's superfun.

Volentering in the youth dept. at my library. It's actually more fun than it sounds, considering how often I get to just hang out and talk with anime fans or my old HS friends. The brunt of my time though, is spent doing "chipping".

You take a book, then take this little sticker that's actually a microchip that can electronically record serial numbers, and place it on this metal pedistal. I then scan the book's barcode and the pedistal programs it into the chip. You then peal the chip off, stick it in the backside cover of the book and cap it off with a "property of venice library" sticker on top of the chip. Not too hard, but tedious since I do it for about 2 hours straight. You eventualy get into a groove and just try to see how fast you can get a book done. Other than that I just shelve dvds and videos or help with arts and crafts for the kids.

I dont get paid, but the volenteer hours count toward college scholarships, so there's a possibility I'll get paid ALOT in a year or two.

eh, might as well update my current work situation...

as i said in Zer0's thread, i found a paid internship working at a small travel agency designing their company website...as it stands now, its mostly done, as they loved one of my preliminary concepts enough where they settled on it outright...while this would normally be a good thing, the bad part is that once i'm done a side project and have that posted, my job is done as well, so it looks like i'll be unemployed again come august...

still, i did some quick calculations and my two month stint at this job has/will have gotten me more cash than working the entire summer at my place of former employment (shoprite), so i guess it isn't all bad...

I get paid $40 a pop to "fix" computers in the my town. By fix I mean: run Adaware, Spybot, Defrag, Trend Micro Virus Scan, and taking a can of compressed air and hopefully not kill my lungs with all the dust.

Each job only takes about 4 hours so essentialy im getting paid $10/hr, not bad eh?

I assume most of that time is running the defrag... otherwise it should only take like 20 minutes

I get to work on roads. But not in the exciting, dig-em-up sort of way. I don't actually get to see the roads, just lines on paper, and occasionally an aerial photo. And I don't get to actually think about it, I just get handed pieces of paper of various sizes in various states of disarray with red ink on them, and I try to make the electronic drawings reflect the red.

woo.

But, I get $647 after taxes every two weeks, so I'll keep doing it for a month or so.

Man, roads are boring.

I've done nothing, except for the first month and a half, I worked at Macy's. I left cause the morning hours were killing me, and I had 2 other job offers that ended up not coming through. Now I'm on the lookout for another job, I really really need one. I also need to find a way to keep my scholarships or else I'm really screwed.

peace

And yeah, it doesnt take that long to do virus/spyware removals.....however it does when you work where I do. Because everybody and their dog has some stupid problem to interupt me with.....

I'm currently spending my summer as the most and least powerful force in a dorm; the front desk worker. I, the lowly weekend warrior, and solely responsible for the fates of thousands of game pieces, various slips of paper, a cabinet full of keys, and a nice solid baseball bat with which I shall decimate the campers. THE BLOOD OF THE INFIDELS SHALL FLOW TONIGHT! ... Sorry, stupid (Insert long string of swearing)s decided to break more pool cue tips. Yaknow, they're not $5 a pop, so don't break them and we don't have an issue!

Minimum wage isn't nearly enough for this.
