From Metroid Database...

Further information from various sources sheds a little more light on the mysterious Metroid Zero Mission and reveals that the game is, in all likelihood, not a prequel, but rather a beefed-up remake of the original Metroid. It looks as though we will be taken back to Zebes for Samus' first encounter with Mother Brain, but this time our girl will have all the abilities and weapons she's gained in all her adventures since then! Imagine exploring Metroid 1 with the ability to crouch, wall jump, speed boost and grab ledges, and taking on the game's enemies with the help of Super Missiles and who knows what other weapons! So far, it looks like while Samus herself looks much more streamlined than the big-helmeted sprite did in 1986, her animation pays a sincere homage to the original version, with Samus running notably fast and holding her gun arm out constantly.

Of course, the question remains, why the name Zero Mission? "Zero" usually denotes a prequel of some sort, so why not name the game "Metroid Advance" or "Metroid 2003" or something? This remains a mystery, as do whatever twists and additions Nintendo will throw at us (we already know there will be completely new areas, enemies and bosses added to the game). NCL's website does mention that MZM is a "tentative title," so it may change before the game's release (remember that Fusion was at one point actually titled simply Metroid IV). With an almost Hideo Kojima/Metal Gear Solid-esque level of ambiguity, Nintendo has tesed us with little other than screenshots, video, and a name. So, with no solid information available from Nintendo, all we can do is make a few guesses and wait for some more answers.

My comment. Why?! Why remake the original Metroid, which you can play on the Gamecube or GBA if you own Prime and Fusion?! Why? Wouldn't it make more sense to remake Metroid 2, the lost Metroid that no one has overplayed?

The PlayStation 2 hardware is to be integrated into a new home media device from Sony's consumer electronics department, codenamed the PSX, as the Japanese giant struggles to extend the success of its games division to other operations.

The new device will feature a TV tuner, hard disk drive and a DVD recorder alongside the games console functionality, making it into an "all in one" device for gaming, media recording and playback.

Details of the device are a bit thin on the ground at the moment, but it's expected that it will offer hard disk video recorder functions, similar to the TiVo and Sky Plus systems, and will feature a high-speed internet port to allow downloads of music and possibly movies through Sony's media distribution systems, in Japan at least.

It's not clear whether "PSX" is going to be the final name of the product, or whether it's a development codename - either way it's a little bit odd, since PSX was the project name behind the original PlayStation development, and persisted as an acronym for the console throughout its lifespan.

This is not the PlayStation3. More like the PlayStation 2.6

Durgit! X-Box 2 must be better. To the batcave!

*batman theme for 4 sec*

Hold on! I forgot the X-Box controller.

Nope, not there. Not in this drawer. Nothing. Nothing. Gamecube. Nothing. Ahh, there it is!

*batman theme again*

We shall begin with Enter the Matrix review.

The game look solid, but background is not detail enough. The animation is alright, but some attack moves hit, but don't do anything. If you focus, you'll notice this. Next, the audio is righteous. The actors actually did the voices even the key maker. The controls are good, not perfect. The X-box Controller S suits the game well since the black button is under the A and it's easier to use. All in all, this game succeeds for the movie-turned-anime-turned-movie-turned-game. Others don't like it, but I'm not another. It justs need more fixture.

Enter The Matrix X-Box Review

Scoring (Out of 2.5)

Graphics: 2.0
Audio: 2.5
Controls: 1.5
Worth It: 2.0
____________
Total: 8.0

Bonus: 1.0 for cut scenes.

Grand Total: 9.0 (Rated Excellent)

Chalk those problems up to the PS2. When making a multiplatform game you have to make it for the lowest common denominator and that would be el PS2. They can do some improvemnt on graphics for GC and X-Box, they can't really do enough to really allow them to use their hardware to their max.

It's funny graphicly the ps2 and dreamcast were competitors graphicly, then when xbox and gamecube came out they were, leaving the ps2 behind. Unfortunatly by that time the ps2 had cemented itself int he gaming community and so lowered the standards of the other two systems.

Frank Hom, producer of Ubi Soft Entertainment's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon video game, told SCI FI Wire that feedback from fans and critics alike made a difference in the game's production. Hom said the game's creators solicited feedback at last year's Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles. "We got a lot of positive reaction and a little bit of negative reaction," Hom said in an interview at this year's E3. "We listened to the users. ... We decided to go ahead with it. We decided to include everything that people wanted and refined it [and] redid it over and over again until we got it right."

The third-person action game, based on the hit 2000 movie of the same name, offers players the ability to play one of the film's three main characters: Jen (Zhang Ziyi), Yu Shu Lien (Michelle Yeoh) and Li Mu Bai (Chow Yun-Fat). "The main thing we tried to do was recreate the combat in the game," Hom said. "It's kind of hard in the video-game world to recreate the love story."

Hom added, "We also developed a unique blocking system. Usually, in most games, you just block. But we felt that in Crouching Tiger, especially with the martial-arts moves, that you should have a more elaborate blocking system to show off the kind of back-and-forth motions that you normally associate with martial-arts films."

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is both published and developed by Ubi Soft Entertainment and will be available for the Xbox and PlayStation 2 in the fall.

3DO, developer of such fine video game fare as the ARMY MEN series and HIGH HEAT BASEBALL, has officially filed for bankruptcy. The company, which had to raise $3 million in operating funds in October 2002, will sell off all of its assets or the entire firm.

LucasArts has announced that they have put plans for a XBox and PS2 version of the upcoming MMPORG STAR WARS GALAXIES: AN EMPIRE DIVIDED on the back burner for now. "We are currently focusing all of our efforts on the successful launch of the PC version of Star Wars Galaxies," said a rep for L.A. The PC version is currently beta testing.

Kyoko Yamashita, a spokesman for Square Enix, developers of the best-selling Final Fantasy video games, told SCI FI Wire that the company will be launching four new games in the franchise over the course of 2003. Each title will offer a new and different story and game mechanics, Yamashita said in an interview at the recent Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles. "I think the biggest thing about Final Fantasy is that, unlike other series or franchises out there, I really can't think of any one that comes with a brand new story, a brand new environment [and] world, set of characters and maybe even a [new] battle system. With each new installment, it's completely redone."

Final Fantasy XI marks the franchise's first massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Available for PlayStation 2 and PC, the game will offer players 40-60 hours of play. Because the game takes place in real time, the game's world changes and other players advance, whether one is playing or not. Beta testing for the PlayStation 2 version will begin in June, while the PC beta begins in July, Yamashita said.

Final Fantasy X-2, for the PS 2, will be the first sequel of the franchise. X-2 will play off of the events in Final Fantasy X. And while the story and characters may be familiar, Final Fantasy X-2 will offer a completely different and revamped battle system, as well as the franchise's first female lead character.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles changes up traditional gameplay by allowing players to link their GameBoy Advance systems to their GameCubes. This option offers players two separate screens for viewing: one projected by a TV screen for all players and a second on the GameBoy Advance for each individual. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles supports up to four players and will be published by Nintendo. The title will be released later this year.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, also from Nintendo for the GameBoy Advance, will feature an "open-ended job class creation system" and the same storyline as the original PlayStation title Final Fantasy Tactics, Yamashita said. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance is due in late 2003.

In its first week of sales, the multi-platform game ENTER THE MATRIX sold over 1 million units in North America and Europe. Compiled reports from online and brick and mortar retailers indicate that the game is outselling its closest competitor on the PS2 two to one and four to one on the XBox.

Electronic Arts and Microsoft are reportedly in talks to acquire Sega, at least for the North American market. Both EA and Microsoft, however, don't want to buy all of Sega, only the development team. That would leave the Sega sales, marketing and arcade teams as a seperate venture. Sega Senior Officer Hisao Oguchi denied that they were in talks with Microsoft for an exclusive relationship. "We'll maintain our multi-platform policy, but we may make an arrangement with a console maker, such as providing our sports games only for a certain hardware," he said.

Argonaut Games today abruptly announced the cancellation of its PlayStation 2 and Xbox platformer Malice and its girl-powered, Xbox only action game Orchid.
The English developer explained its finances will be significantly impacted by the cancellations. And as a result of the cancellations, the company's cash flow will be less than expected in 2003, since final payments from both publishers would have been paid upon completion of the products.

VU Games has cancelled the Malice development contract and has returned all rights to Argonaut. Vivendi Universal Games was previously in negotiations with Argonaut to find another publisher for Malice, but the possibility is unlikely, said Argonaut's executives, given the financial value the company requires at this point. Malice and its giant hammer swinging action have been in development for three years and was the demo software at the Xbox's unveiling in early 2001. Once envisioned as the Xbox's platformer answer to Mario or Crash Bandicoot, Malice is now no more.

Argonaut also has terminated its agreement with Namco Hometek Inc. for Orchid. Namco decided that the potential returns would not justify the additional investment required to complete it in its new form.

"These developments are very disappointing for Argonaut," said Chairman Julian Paul. "Malice and Orchid are heavy blows and the unfortunate delay of Powerdrome is very frustrating."

Lastly, sales of the recently released Kung Fu Chaos have been disappointing. As a result, Microsoft has decided not to commission a sequel as was believed.

Take-Two published the popular titles Midnight Club 2 and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, both of which greatly contributed to the successful quarter.
